What is Rock?

Rock music is a genre of popular music that was first heard mainstream in the 1950s. Its roots are in rock and roll, ryhthm and blues, country, folk, jazz and classical music. It basically revolves around the guitar backbeat that is laid down by the electric bass guitar, drms and keyboard instruments which are all considered as the rhythm section. In the 70s, synthesizers were incorporated into the sound. Some soloing instruments are sometimes used such as the saxophone and blues-style harmonica.

The purest form of Rock music has three chords, an insistent back beat and a catchy melody or tune.

Rock groups are usually quartets–or a group comprising of four members.

In recent times, the term ‘Rock’ has been used to cover other terms and forms such as pop, soul and even hip hop music.

What is Indie?

Indie or Independent music describes a genre of music that is characterized by independence from major commercial labels, and is usually autonomous to recording and the publishing of music tracks.

Labels of indie music are well known for their little influence over the artist they represent, especially with the music production. They strive to avoid artist-cultivating behaviors that is dominant in major labels.

What is Electro?

Electro is a kind of electronic music that is directly influenced by the use of TR-808 and funk records. This kind of music typically has electronic sounds and some vocals that are delivered mechanically or in a deadpan manner. It is often delivered through an electronic distortion like a vocoder.

The definition of this sound is the use of drum machines as the base of rhythm for the track. Evolution of the sound gave rise to the advent of computer usage. Drum patterns for this genre tend to be electronic emulations of breakbeats that use kick drums, snare and even clap accents.

Electro drumbeats are different from breakbeats in such a way that electro is more mechanical, while breakbeats gives the feeling of a real drummer’s presence.

What is Electronic Music?

Electronic Music is the kind of music that uses electronic musical instruments and technology in its production. There is a distinction between music production through electromechanical means and electronic technology. When you say electromechanical, music is produced using sound producing devices like the Hammond organ and an electric guitar. The use of electronic technology produces purely electronic sounds and is achieved by employing devices like a sound synthesizer or a computer.

Electronic Music has a vast list of sub genres! The more commonly known ones are ELECTRO, ELECTRONICA, DANCE, HOUSE, and DISCO.
